The 2027 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 gets a 603-HP V8, smarter suspension, richer rear-seat comfort and advanced MB.OS technology.

At the top of the luxury market, leather alone is no longer enough. Buyers expect effortless performance, intuitive technology and details that feel intentional. The revised Maybach GLS tries to deliver all three without becoming a rolling gadget demonstration.

The new model will reach U.S. dealerships later in 2026 as a 2027 vehicle. Pricing has not been announced, but Mercedes has confirmed meaningful changes to its design, powertrain, chassis, comfort features and software.

Maybach GLS Design Gets More Theatrical

The redesigned Mercedes-Maybach GLS front end introduces a Maybach-specific grille with an illuminated surround and, for the first time on this model, an illuminated MAYBACH name. Buyers can also specify an illuminated standing hood ornament. Rose Gold accents appear inside the DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps, while the rear receives new taillights with three-dimensional star motifs.

Optional 23-inch forged wheels add a wonderfully unnecessary detail: center-mounted Mercedes stars that remain upright as the wheels rotate. New paint choices include Dark Petrol and a Dark Petrol over Verde Silver Metallic two-tone finish.

A 603-HP V8 Keeps Luxury Effortless

The electrified twin-turbo V8 produces 603 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque, increases of 53 horsepower and 89 lb-ft. A second-generation 48-volt integrated starter-generator can provide 23 horsepower of boost while supporting smoother starts, coasting and energy recuperation.

The point is not simply acceleration. Maybach power should arrive without drama. Mercedes says two new balance shafts further reduce vibration, while a more direct steering ratio is intended to make this large SUV feel more precise without sacrificing composure.

Smarter Suspension Focuses on Rear-Seat Calm

Standard AIRMATIC air suspension gains predictive damper control that can use road information shared by Mercedes vehicles ahead. The optional E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL system uses more than 20 sensors and five multi-core processors to analyze conditions 1,000 times per second.

By adjusting each wheel individually, the system can reduce roll, pitch and lift. In CURVE mode, the GLS can lean into corners by as much as three degrees. The practical goal is simple: reduce the lateral forces passengers feel, particularly those reclining in the rear.

The Cabin Becomes a More Complete Private Lounge

Front occupants receive a new vibration massage function in the seat cushions. Rear Executive Seats add massage functions that extend into the calf rests. The Burmester 3D Surround Sound System now uses 15 speakers and a 710-watt amplifier, including two additional rear surround speakers.

New leather and trim choices expand personalization. An electric air-filtration system can refresh the cabin air approximately every 90 seconds under specified conditions. Mercedes has also added insulation around the transmission tunnel, engine bulkhead, engine cover and selected body areas to reduce powertrain, road and wind noise.

MB.OS Adds Technology Without Replacing the Driver

The dashboard uses three 12.3-inch displays beneath one continuous glass surface. Behind them is the Mercedes-Benz Operating System, which connects infotainment, comfort, driving and assistance functions while supporting over-the-air software updates.

The MBUX Virtual Assistant combines artificial intelligence from ChatGPT, Microsoft and Google. Ten cameras, five radar sensors and 12 ultrasonic sensors support assistance and parking functions. MB.DRIVE ASSIST PRO will offer expanded features, while CITY PRO is planned for later. The driver remains responsible.

The 2027 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 is less about one spectacular feature than the removal of small irritations. It is stronger, quieter, more attentive and more theatrical, yet its real purpose remains calm. At this level, luxury is not simply what occupants see. It is what they no longer have to notice.
