Toyota has spent decades turning the Corolla into the sensible answer to almost every everyday transportation question. The 2026 Toyota GRMN Corolla is what happens when the company stops asking about commuting, rear-seat passengers, or sensible tires and starts asking how much performance can be extracted from a compact hatchback.

The answer is a $64,360, two-seat, all-wheel-drive special limited to 730 vehicles globally. Built at Toyota’s Motomachi plant in Japan, primarily for North America, Japan and Australia, it arrives in late summer in either Zero Gravity or Gravel paint.

That price puts the GRMN well beyond the standard GR Corolla, but this is not simply a trim package with bronze wheels and a larger wing. Toyota says the car was developed through Nürburgring testing, Super Taikyu endurance racing and simulator work, with lessons also drawn from the hydrogen-powered GR Corolla race car.

Why the 2026 GRMN Corolla Costs $64,360

The familiar turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine still produces 300 horsepower, but peak torque rises to 302 pound-feet, up from 295 pound-feet in the regular 2026 GR Corolla. Toyota concentrated that extra pull between 4,000 and 4,600 rpm, where it matters when accelerating out of a corner.

A close-ratio six-speed manual is the only transmission. The GR-FOUR all-wheel-drive system receives exclusive programming intended to improve rear torque distribution in a straight line and stability during high-speed steering inputs. An intercooler spray system, sub-radiator and cool-air duct help manage temperatures during sustained hard driving.

Toyota also removed the rear seats and cut 66 pounds, bringing preliminary curb weight to 3,218.7 pounds. That makes the GRMN less useful than the ordinary hatchback, but usefulness clearly was not chairing this particular engineering meeting.

Nürburgring Hardware Changes the GR Corolla Formula

The GRMN’s most meaningful upgrades are under the skin. Exclusive monotube dampers use internal rebound springs to help maintain inner-wheel traction in corners. Toyota also revised electric power steering assistance and tuned the bump stops after testing on the Nürburgring’s demanding surface.

Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires wrap 18-inch matte-bronze forged wheels. Braking comes from 14-inch ventilated front discs with four-piston calipers and 11.7-inch ventilated rear discs with two-piston calipers.

Carbon fiber is used for the hood, front fenders, front side spoilers and adjustable rear wing. The wing offers five angle settings, and Toyota says engineers evaluated changes in one-degree increments. Hood and fender ducts, plus the front spoilers, were influenced by parts tested in Super Taikyu competition.

This is the important distinction: the GRMN is not chasing a dramatic horsepower headline. It is trying to become more consistent, communicative and stable when driven hard for more than a few exciting seconds.

Two Seats Make This Corolla a Serious Commitment

Inside, the GRMN receives semi-bucket seats trimmed in black and red Brin Naub suede and synthetic leather. The dashboard and front pillars are flocked to create a more focused cockpit, while carbon trim, red accents, a numbered plaque and a dash pad carrying Morizo’s signature underline the car’s limited-production status.

It keeps an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert remain standard, so the pursuit of track focus has not removed everyday driver-assistance technology.

Every car also includes a one-year National Auto Sport Association membership and instruction at a complimentary High-Performance Driving Event. That is a useful addition because a car wearing Cup 2 tires, carrying no rear seat and costing more than many luxury crossovers deserves more than an enthusiastic freeway on-ramp.

The GRMN Corolla will make little sense to most Corolla buyers, and that is precisely the point. It is a compact performance car built around scarcity, engineering detail and driver involvement rather than broad appeal. Toyota has not made the Corolla more practical. It has made it wonderfully, deliberately less reasonable.
