Jaguar has opened the door to the Type 01, and the production cabin is as unconventional as the car’s long, low exterior promised. Instead of another broad horizontal dashboard, Jaguar has built the interior around a central spine running the vehicle’s full length.

That decision changes the cabin’s character. The spine divides Type 01 into four individual spaces while emphasizing its grand-touring proportions. It is also the clearest evidence yet that the Type 00 concept was more than an expensive mood board.

Jaguar Type 01 Interior Breaks the Horizontal Rule

Most new-car interiors repeat the same theme: a wide dashboard, a large center screen and a console between the front passengers. The Jaguar Type 01 interior turns that layout through 90 degrees. Its strongest visual line runs front to rear.

Chief Interior Designer Thomas Holden calls the spine an “architectural statement.” Brass-inspired trim continues along the door tops, where long decorative pieces carry the Jaguar leaper. Strikethrough graphics visually connect the hood and slim dashboard.

The result should make Type 01 feel longer, lower and more intimate. A six-figure electric GT cannot rely on screens or acceleration alone. Buyers expect a cabin with a point of view. The EPA explains why an EV has no tailpipe emissions while electricity generation still affects its footprint.

Four Seats Become Four Individual Spaces

The central spine creates four defined passenger zones rather than one open lounge. Jaguar has not released full dimensions or seat specifications, but it describes a low driving position that cossets the driver. That fits a four-door GT better than an upright luxury EV.

Dividing a cabin so emphatically carries risk. It could feel intimate and tailored, or leave rear passengers feeling isolated. Comfort, legroom, visibility and access to the low body will require real time in the production car.

The intent is unusually clear. Jaguar wants each person accommodated individually while the driver remains central. That is a more traditional GT priority than the shared-screen lounge adopted by many electric flagships.

Technology That Waits Until It Is Needed

The slim dashboard houses new infotainment without appearing dominated by electronics. Digital interfaces appear when needed, while concealed technology preserves the clean architecture. NHTSA’s definition of distracted driving includes fiddling with entertainment or navigation systems.

The ClearSight Rear View display sits centrally at the windshield’s base, roughly level with the door mirrors. Jaguar says this keeps the driver’s focus in a consistent zone. U.S. rear-visibility requirements appear in Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 111.

“Technology on demand” is easier to promise than execute. Hidden controls must remain quick to find, and changing temperature cannot become a scavenger hunt. Type 01 will be judged on whether restraint reduces distraction or conceals complexity.

Travertine, Brass and a Different Luxury Language

Jaguar’s tonal palette draws from travertine stone, brass-like finishes and textured textiles. Those materials appeared more theatrically in the Type 00 concept. Type 01 translates their influence into production surfaces.

Jaguar is establishing a new identity without predictable signals of British luxury. It has not recreated an old XJ cabin or used heritage as a shortcut. Stone-inspired color, linear metalwork and artisan-style textiles make the interior feel architectural.

The test will come under fingertips and in difficult light. These materials must feel convincing, resist glare and age gracefully. If they look manufactured rather than crafted, the minimal layout gives them nowhere to hide.

Pebble Beach Is the Preview, New York Is the Reveal

A Type 01 prototype will make its North American debut during Monterey Car Week wearing a new wrap. The week culminates at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on Sunday, August 16. Jaguar is placing its electric GT beside the cars that created its reputation.

The complete reveal is scheduled for October 6, 2026, in New York. Jaguar has not disclosed pricing, range, charging performance or final equipment. When an official U.S. range arrives, the EPA’s explanation of EV range testing will show how that number was developed.

Still, this may be the most telling part so far. Owners experience luxury mainly from the driver’s seat. The central spine, four individual spaces and restrained technology show how Jaguar plans to make every journey feel like an occasion.
