Electric vehicles have spent years promising lower prices. In this 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Review, Hyundai finally moves the sticker in the right direction without shrinking the vehicle’s usefulness.
The 2026 Ioniq 5 starts at $35,000 before a $1,600 destination charge, $7,600 less than the comparable 2025 model. Hyundai cut prices by an average of $9,155, with some trims dropping $9,800. That is real money, not a floor-mat situation.
Lower pricing does not mean Hyundai emptied the battery. The base SE Standard Range retains a 63-kWh battery, 168 horsepower and an EPA-estimated 245 miles of range. Spend $2,500 more for the long-range SE RWD and you get 84 kWh, 225 horsepower and 318 miles.

A Price Cut Changes the Ioniq 5 Equation
Hyundai’s official pricing announcement lists the SE RWD at $37,500, SEL RWD at $39,800 and Limited RWD at $45,075. The 320-horsepower AWD versions begin at $41,000 and top out at $48,975.
Those numbers matter after the federal New Clean Vehicle Credit ended for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025. Hyundai’s lower MSRPs do not depend on income rules, vehicle eligibility or tax paperwork. The saving is built into the sticker.
The long-range SE RWD may be the spreadsheet winner, but the SEL RWD looks like the better everyday value. For $2,300 over the SE, it adds H-Tex seating, power front seats, rear air vents, a hands-free liftgate, wireless phone charging and Highway Driving Assist 2. It remains below $40,000 before destination while preserving the 318-mile rating.
2026 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Review: Range and Charging
The Ioniq 5’s 800-volt architecture remains a major advantage. Hyundai says the 84-kWh battery can charge from 10 to 80 percent in about 20 minutes under ideal conditions using a powerful 800-volt DC charger and the supplied CCS adapter.
Every 2026 model has a native North American Charging Standard port for compatible NACS stations. Hyundai includes a CCS adapter and dual-amperage Level 1 and Level 2 cable. Charging speed still depends on station voltage and battery temperature, because engineering cannot make a broken charger answer its telephone.
Range changes with the configuration. The long-range SE and SEL AWD models are rated at 290 miles. The heavier Limited AWD falls to 269 miles, while the lifted XRT AWD with all-terrain tires manages 259 miles. Buyers should choose all-wheel drive because they need its traction or 320 horsepower, not because an extra motor sounds reassuring on the order form.
Space and Safety Still Strengthen the Value
The Ioniq 5 provides 106.5 cubic feet of passenger space. Its rear bench slides and reclines, and cargo capacity measures 26.3 cubic feet behind the second row or 58.5 with it folded. A rear wiper is standard, fixing an irritating earlier omission.
The current IIHS safety evaluations give the 2026 model Good ratings in the updated moderate-overlap front and updated side tests. Its pedestrian front-crash-prevention system also earns a Good rating. The LATCH child-seat-anchor assessment is Acceptable because the lower anchors can sit too deeply in the seats, a small but useful detail for families to inspect during a test fit.

Which 2026 Ioniq 5 Should You Buy?
The $35,000 Standard Range is the price leader for commuters who can charge at home and rarely travel far. The $37,500 long-range SE is the range-per-dollar choice. For most buyers, however, the $39,800 SEL RWD balances range, comfort and driver-assistance technology most convincingly.
The Limited trims justify their higher prices with features including ventilated front seats, a head-up display, Bose audio, a panoramic fixed-glass roof and a digital rearview mirror. AWD buyers gain stronger acceleration and cold-weather traction but surrender range and pay more.
The 2026 Ioniq 5 is not suddenly inexpensive in every configuration, and home charging remains central to making any EV easy to own. Still, Hyundai has removed thousands of dollars from a roomy, rapid-charging and distinctive vehicle without removing the reasons people wanted it. That makes the value more than a headline. It changes which version many shoppers can realistically bring home.
