The 2027 Hyundai Tucson pairs more family space with conversational technology, a hybrid efficiency target and new terrain assistance.

The redesigned 2027 Hyundai Tucson brings a larger cabin, conversational infotainment and a hybrid mode that can keep climate control running with the gasoline engine off. Its most useful changes, however, may begin with something considerably less glamorous: rear doors that open wider.

Hyundai’s family SUV is taking on the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V and Kia Sportage with a broader mix of practicality and technology. The supplied specifications describe a vehicle that is longer, wider and taller than before, while the hybrid targets up to 42 miles per gallon. Pricing and final trim equipment have not yet been announced, leaving an important question about how much of this new capability buyers will receive at each price.

2027 Hyundai Tucson makes more room for family life

The North American long-wheelbase version measures about 185 inches long and nearly 75 inches wide. Rear legroom grows to roughly 42 inches, depending on final specification. Those figures suggest more flexibility for adult passengers, school bags and the collection of belongings that somehow becomes permanent equipment in a family vehicle.

The rear doors open 83 degrees, an improvement of 10 degrees over the previous opening. That is a practical change for installing a child seat, helping an older passenger aboard or getting a dog into a properly secured position. Extra cabin room matters more when people can reach it comfortably.

Behind the rear seats, the Tucson provides 41.7 cubic feet of cargo space. North American models use a 60/40 rear-seat split, allowing a longer item to fit alongside a passenger or secured pet. A broad opening and squared-off cargo area should help with bulky loads, although final cargo-floor height and accessories depend on specification. Dog owners should still check their actual crate: optimism remains a poor substitute for a tape measure.

A tougher shape, with a lighting caveat

Hyundai calls the design direction “Art of Steel.” Muscular fenders and cleaner door surfaces give the Tucson a bolder appearance, while the H-Edge lighting signature visually stretches its front. At the rear, Prism lamps use an intricate internal pattern to create the appearance of light floating inside the lens. LED taillamps are standard, and wheel choices range from 17 to 20 inches.

Some global versions offer Micro Pixel Lighting with 25,600 individual LED pixels. That system can produce precise beam patterns, a rain guide and animated greetings. It is not currently listed for North America. American buyers receive the H-Edge front design and Prism-style rear lighting, with specifications varying by trim and market. Shoppers should distinguish the vehicle’s new appearance from lighting hardware shown on overseas versions.

Big screens, but physical controls remain

The cabin uses either a 17-inch or 12.9-inch primary touchscreen alongside a slim 9.9-inch driver display. Hyundai has retained tactile buttons beneath the central screen for frequently used climate and audio functions, reducing the need to search through menus. Large displays are easier to appreciate when adjusting the cabin temperature does not require a small expedition.

A column-mounted gear selector frees space in the center console, while a two-level dashboard adds an open storage shelf. Soft padding covers the dashboard, doors and armrest. Two 15-watt wireless charging pads give the driver and passenger separate charging positions, and available 100-watt USB-C power adds another option for devices. Rear USB-C charging and available rear climate features extend the cabin’s usefulness beyond the front seats.

Pleos Connect brings conversational requests

Pleos Connect runs on Android Automotive and includes Gleo AI, Hyundai’s conversational assistant. The system is described as understanding a complete request, such as finding a hiking trail with parking within 30 minutes, rather than simply searching for one word. Apps and services can operate directly in the vehicle, while over-the-air updates allow the system to develop after purchase.

Driver monitoring also becomes part of the technology package. An in-cabin system watches for signs of drowsiness and can warn the driver. Child Presence Detection and Rear Occupant Alert can warn if a child or pet may have been left behind. Navigation-linked cruise control can prepare for curves, roundabouts, intersections and speed bumps, but the driver remains responsible.

The hybrid’s useful trick happens while parked

Alongside its efficiency target, the hybrid offers Hybrid Stay Mode, described as a class-first feature. It can operate climate control, audio and device charging while the gasoline engine remains off, creating a quieter space during a school pickup or roadside break.

That could be particularly useful when waiting with a dog on a warm day. It still requires owners to follow Hyundai’s operating instructions, and it must never replace supervision. The supplied information does not establish how long the mode can run, so buyers should check its operating conditions before planning around it.

XRT PRO adds terrain guidance

Hyundai’s first AI-powered Smart Terrain Assist analyzes traction and wheel slip, displaying a green, orange or red stuck score. It can identify snow, mud, sand or rocks and select an appropriate setting. The XRT PRO adds all-wheel drive, all-terrain tires, recovery hooks and 8.3 inches of ground clearance.

The hybrid can tow up to 3,000 pounds, an increase of 1,000 pounds. Together, these changes broaden the Tucson’s appeal for families whose weekends include equipment and rougher routes. The final buying decision still depends on price and trim availability. Wider doors, useful cargo room and accessible controls are easy benefits to understand; the value of the cleverest features will depend on what Hyundai charges to put them in your driveway.
