Maserati Gran Turismo Convertible S

he GranTurismo Convertible Sport is solidly rooted in the Maserati tradition of manufacturing grand touring cars of timeless design and thrilling character. Maserati has created open air cars for nearly a century which have been met with critical acclaim for their style and performance. In the years since its first convertible, the motoring world has undergone a profound transformation. However, the sense of occasion that comes from climbing into a refined cabin and gripping a steering wheel of a highly capable product of Modena emblazoned with the famous Trident remains.

The new Maserati GranTurismo Convertible Sport is the natural successor to a model that is already part of Maserati history as an exceptional sport touring convertible which can seat four adults comfortably. Extending the range with a version that is even more dynamic is typical of the Maserati philosophy. The GranTurismo Convertible and GranTurismo Convertible Sport are similar in spirit but with very different character.

The Maserati GranTurismo Convertible Sport enables its driver to share an open air driving experience for four adults, enhanced by revised components and tuning which yield a high ceiling of capability and the deeper red portion of Maserati’s DNA.

 Exterior: Athletic in Red

Maserati’s latest Rosso Trionfale finish for the bodywork perfectly defines the GranTurismo Convertible Sport’s athletic soul, and marks the return of the racing color of Maserati’s triumphant cars of the 1950s. The black oval grill, a distinctive and traditional feature on Maserati vehicles, echoes the elegance of models from a classic era like the A6G- 54 Frua Spyder or the A6 GCS from Pininfarina. Black colored headlamp surrounds continue the aggressive frontal appearance. The Maserati Trident located in the center of the grill sports red accents, an important feature that appears only on the most powerful cars in the Maserati range.

Exterior enhancements such as the front aero winglets, body-colored door handles, mirrors and revised side skirts are matched in color with the car’s bodywork. These give the GranTurismo Convertible Sport its purposeful look but also play a key role in its aerodynamics. In the Maserati tradition of personalization, Maserati offers an array of options including exterior carbon fiber upgrades to these components.

Black Shadowline trim traces the outline of the cabin to accentuate its dynamic performance and it also appears on the tailpipes further enhancing the car’s sporty poise. The oval tailpipes make this model as unmistakable as the famed Maserati exhaust sound. The newly-developed 20” Astro Design alloy wheels introduced on this car are available in two finishes: Silver and Grigio Anthracite. The latter boasting a unique metallic look.

Interior: Refined, Comfortable and Spacious

Covered in fine Italian leather, the GranTurismo Convertible Sport interior offers two new hues: Bianco Pregiato and Grigio Chrono; with a specially designed central section of the seats whose undulating stitching pattern closely matches the lines of the Maserati’s grill. Power lumbar adjustment is standard for both the driver and front passenger. As a genuine four-seater, the rear seats provide exceptional support and comfort not found in other offerings in the segment.

Even the dashboard’s harmonious lines enhance the experience: the Grigio Dark Chrome finish is a subtle reminder of the sporting nature of the cabin. The already extensive choice of carpet colors has been increased with the introduction of Grigio Chrono, one that combines harmoniously with the new leather options. The large ‘Trofeo Design’ gearshift paddles, standard on this model, are fixed to the steering column and are now even longer to enhance their function irrespective of the steering angle. On the GranTurismo Convertible Sport the pedals are formed of drilled aluminum and the demands of sports driving were taken into account in their design.

Underway, the instrument panel is clearly visible, allowing the driver to keep everything clearly in view. The center display provides all important information, even data concerning the gearbox management system via a special indicator unique to this model. Brushed aluminum door sill plates, with their distinct Maserati logos, are the GranTurismo Convertible Sport’s reminder that you have experienced the best open-air performance Maserati offers.

Engine:

The GranTurismo Convertible Sport’s 4.7L V8 power unit delivers 444 hp at 7,000 rpm and has a maximum torque of 376 lb-ft at 4,750 rpm. The engine’s development saw innovative techniques employed to reduce friction, like the adoption of Diamond-Like Coating (DLC) for the tappets and camshaft lobes. The sweet and throaty engine noise that varies depending on whether the exhaust bypass valves are open or closed defines the vehicle’s passionate performance for its driver.

Suspension:

The GranTurismo Convertible Sport’s excellent performance is delivered courtesy of dedicated technical changes made to this model. An upgraded sport Skyhook adaptive suspension system is equipped as standard on this model and features aluminum dampers that continuously adjust the ride to road conditions with a new performance calibration.

Brakes:

The GranTurismo Convertible Sport features powerful dual-cast technology Brembo brakes. The hubs cast in Aluminum with steel rotors for reliable and long lasting use. The four discs are grooved and ventilated to cope with more spirited driving.

Transmission:

The six-speed automatic transmission operates in five modes: Auto Normal, Auto Sport, Manual Normal, Manual Sport and Ice. MC Auto Shift kicks in once Auto Sport mode is selected and enables the car to sprint from 0-60 in just 5.2 seconds.

The transmission can be controlled manually via the steering wheel mounted ‘Trofeo Design’ shift paddles. These are now slightly longer to make changing gear easier. The acceleration mapping has been improved for even better throttle response, and a new MC Start Strategy, derived from the race-derived Maserati GranTurismo MC has been introduced for optimal standing start acceleration. A new Maserati Stability Program (MSP) calibration dedicated to the GranTurismo Convertible Sport allows the driver more freedom to enjoy the car to higher limits, but still within the bounds of safety.
