2022 Bentley Bentayga S: First Look

Last summer Bentley introduced an updated Bentayga SUV that received a fresh look while retaining its premier combination of luxury, utility and capability. First introduced in the fall of 2015, Bentayga has been successful in the luxury SUV segment — more than 20,000 have been built since that time — and Bentayga was the brand’s worldwide best-seller last year. Now the luxury marque enhances the Bentayga lineup with the all-new 2022 Bentley Bentayga S.

Showcasing its sporting nature, the Bentayga S stands out from the rest of the lineup with black treatment on all exterior brightwork, in addition to a black grille, door mirrors and side sills. Headlights and taillights also receive a dark tint treatment, and the lower bumpers are painted gloss black.

The 2022 Bentley Bentayga S also gets a larger rear spoiler, which is both functional and stylish. Large, black oval sport exhaust outlets underscore the menacingly sporty look.

The 2022 Bentayga S wears 22-inch wheels featuring unique spokes that point in the same direction on both sides of the vehicle. The standard color for these massive wheels is silver, although other options are full gloss black or black and bright polished.

The 2022 Bentley Bentayga S features Alcantara throughout the cabin, which sets it apart from the standard Bentayga V8. This treatment includes Alcantara-trimmed seat cushions, backrest panels, gear lever, steering wheel and headliner for a lavish appearance. At the center of the dashboard resides a high-resolution 10.9-inch display within the Bentley “wings” dash design. A single sculpted vent sits above the infotainment screen, integrating the Bentley signature Breitling clock.

A fully digital instrument panel sits in front of the driver — similar to the Bentayga Speed — with graphics that mimic high-end chronographs. The display is completely configurable to feature lighting, animations as well as maps and other media information.

Greeting the front-seat passenger is an elegant fascia adorned with a Bentayga S similar to those found on the illuminated treadplates.

Powering the 2022 Bentley Bentayga S is the marque’s 4.0-liter twin-scroll turbocharged V8 engine producing 542 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque. Power gets sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission.

© Bentley MotorsVery Quick
With this much power on tap, the big (and not exactly lightweight) SUV can reach 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and will eventually achieve a top speed of 180 mph.

Engineers have enhanced the ride and performance of the 2022 Bentley Bentayga S via Bentley Dynamic Ride. This system features electric active roll technology that counters lateral forces that occur during cornering within .3 seconds to provide a stable, comfortable ride while ensuring that the tires remain in contact with the road for maximum performance. Bentley Dynamic Ride is standard equipment on the 2022 Bentayga S.

© Bentley MotorsEnhanced SPORT Mode
Further differentiating itself from the standard Bentayga V8, the Bentayga S gets an enhanced SPORT mode that increases air suspension damping by 15 percent for increased steering feel and response. Stability control and Bentley’s torque vectoring system are both tuned to provide a more engaging drive. A new sport exhaust — also standard equipment — further enhances the Bentayga S experience.

© Bentley MotorsComing This Fall
The 2022 Bentley Bentayga S will join the Hybrid, V8 and Speed variants of the Bentayga when deliveries begin this fall. Customers will be able to place orders for the new Bentayga S in June. This exclusively sporting SUV will have a starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $219,800.
