One of the largest luxury rides available in America, the Lincoln Navigator SUV resides at the top of Ford Motor Company’s luxury brand. This big, bold vehicle already offers an impressive level of capability along with a lavish interior. Now Lincoln is updating the Navigator for the 2022 model year with refreshed styling, additional luxury features and new advanced technology to elevate the entire experience of owning a 2022 Lincoln Navigator.

“The confident, new look of Navigator and the introduction of advanced features such as Lincoln ActiveGlide — our hands-free driver-assist technology — are great examples of how we elevate our sanctuary experience and keep our vehicles fresh,” said Lincoln President Joy Falotico. “The new Navigator will continue to play a critical role in differentiating our brand and will welcome even more new clients to Lincoln,” Falotico mused.

The Navigator received a completely new look a few years back, so the updates for 2022 are evolutionary although significant. The signature Lincoln grille gets updated and larger than before, flanked by new adaptive pixel projector headlights.

The look at the rear of the 2022 Lincoln Navigator has also been updated with 3D LED taillights that add depth to the overall impression. The lights fade from the center outward upon approaching the vehicle, and then towards the center when leaving the vehicle.

At the center of the 2022 Lincoln Navigator experience is a new, larger 13.2-inch color touchscreen running the latest SYNC4 system, which not only provides twice the computing power of the previous version but also includes wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. SYNC4 also has natural language voice recognition to answer questions or aid in route planning. Amazon Alexa integration is also designed to make life easier on the road.

Lincoln will introduce its latest autonomous driving system on the 2022 Navigator. Called ActiveGlide, the system utilizes the adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane centering and speed sign recognition. ActiveGlide makes it possible for drivers to operate the Navigator hands-free on more than 130,000 miles of prequalified sections of divided highway. The driver gets notified that the system has been activated via blue light cues in the instrument cluster and head-up display. A driver-facing camera monitors eyes and head position to ensure that while hands are off the wheel eyes remain on the road.

A vehicle as large as the Navigator requires significant power, which is delivered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine producing 440 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. Power gets sent to the road via a smooth-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission. Navigator is available with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, and while it may not be used much for off-roading, the 2022 Lincoln Navigator boasts 9.6 inches of ground clearance.

Lincoln has set up Navigator to make towing as easy as possible. The available Heavy Duty Trailer Tow package now includes Trailer Reverse Guidance, which takes advantage of the Navigator’s high-resolution cameras to provide multiple views, along with steering guidance graphics to assist in backing up a trailer.

What Lincoln calls the Black Label experience is the pinnacle of exclusivity, providing member benefits and specially curated interiors to create a personalized vehicle for customers. “Black Label continues to be a key differentiator and opportunity for growth for Lincoln, setting us apart and showcasing the best of the brand, our vehicles and services,” said Michael Sprague, North America director of the Lincoln brand. “Not only has Black Label continued to redefine what it means to shop for and purchase a luxury vehicle, but it also has elevated the entire experience of owning one,” Sprague enthused.

Lincoln Navigator Black Label variants are offered with themed interiors such as Chalet or Yacht Club. These themes utilize premium Venetian leather, natural woods and unique details to set the vehicles apart from other Navigators. For the 2022 Navigator, two new themes are available: Central Park and Invitation. “We continue to evolve our exclusive Black Label themes based on luxury trends and the changing environment, ultimately drawing inspiration from our clients,” said Marcia Salzberg, Lincoln senior color and materials designer.

The Central Park theme features Dark Walnut open-pore wood that extends across the instrument panel with lasered details that show the park’s actual locations and pathways. Soft leather in Urban Green is designed to showcase the architectural skyline with engineered perforations, while the vehicle exterior is painted in Manhattan Green.

As part of the Invitation theme, open-pore Khaya wood is used on the instrument panel and center console, making use of an industry-first, dual-laser etching blend of geometric and organic shapes designed to put clients in a calm, relaxed mood, according to Lincoln. Dark wood and Venetian black leather work well with a Pergola-inspired perforation in the seats and detailed Brandy stitching.
