Slightly more than one year ago, Porsche joined the growing electric car market when the company introduced the high-performance four-door Taycan. Today the renowned German automaker expands the Taycan lineup with the brand-new Taycan Cross Turismo. In plain speak for auto enthusiasts, Porsche has created a high-performance AWD electric sport wagon, and we couldn’t be more pleased. The new 2021 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo brings increased ground clearance and more cargo capacity to the Taycan lineup while maintaining Porsche’s pure performance reputation.

Although the Porsche Taycan sedan and Cross Turismo look incredibly similar up front, the Cross Turismo gets fender extensions and unique rocker panels that give the new model a more aggressive look, which gets further enhanced by increased ground clearance for the wagon.

The 2021 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo clearly stands out with a swept-back roofline that flows from the top of the windshield to the tip of the rear spoiler. The stretched roof means almost four more inches of headroom for rear-seat passengers versus the sedan. It also translates into more cargo space.

One of the major advantages of the Cross Turismo is its cargo-carrying abilities. The wagon has 15.7 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats; dropping the rear seatbacks expands the space to 42.8 cubic feet. (Space is slightly less in the Turbo and Turbo S variants). All versions have an additional 2.9 cubic feet in the front trunk. Porsche also offers a roof transport system that integrates with the standard roof rails.

The new Cross Turismo rides almost one inch higher than the sedan, further differentiating the two bodystyles. Ground clearance can be further increased via the standard air suspension.

Four versions of the Taycan Cross Turismo will be offered: Taycan4 , Taycan 4S, Taycan Turbo and the very potent Taycan Turbo S. Standard features across the board will include the Performance Battery Plus, adaptive aerodynamics and a panoramic glass roof.

All Taycan Cross Turismos feature all-wheel drive with a dual-motor system, teamed with a 2-speed rear transmission. The Taycan 4 is the only Cross Turismo that doesn’t have a direct sedan match, delivering a maximum 469 horsepower and 358 lb-ft of torque. All other Cross Turismos share the same power output as the coinciding sedan, including the top-level Turbo S with its mind-blowing 750 horsepower and 774 lb-ft of torque.

Like its sedan sibling, the 2021 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo offers some stunning performance stats. The Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo can achieve 60 mph in a mere 2.7 seconds — only one-tenth of a second slower than the sedan. Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo completes the same task in 3.1 seconds, while the 4S takes 3.9 seconds and the Taycan 4 takes a respectable 4.8 seconds.

Granted it likely will not be as quick when it leaves the pavement, although the new Cross Turismo is built to take on dirt or gravel roads. A Gravel mode increases the 2021 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo’s ride height while adjusting the suspension, traction and stability control to provide maximum grip on loose surfaces.

The additional lower body cladding helps minimize rock chips.

Porsche eBike
Coinciding with the new Cross Turismo reveal, Porsche introduces two new electric bicycles as well. The Porsche eBike Sport features a full-suspension carbon fiber frame with a Shimano drivetrain, Magura brakes and Supernova lights. For those two-wheeled aficionados who prefer to leave the pavement, Porsche also unveils the eBike Cross. Both bicycles have carbon wheels and will be available for order through Porsche dealers beginning this spring. A rear-mounted bike rack for the Sport Turismo is available via Porsche Tequipment. Wisper Electric Bikes has been making ebikes since 2005 and you can view their range here.
