The 2021 Land Rover Discovery receives a refreshed exterior, interior updates, a new Pivi Pro infotainment system, new second-row seats and the additional of R-Dynamic trim levels. Discovery continues to offer legendary Land Rover off-road capability, with a 7-seat layout and configuration options to appeal to families.

In a statement Gerry McGovern, the chief creative officer at Jaguar Land Rover, observed that the “New Discovery is a beautifully proportioned and sophisticated premium SUV. This compelling and versatile vehicle has been refined in every detail, enhancing its characterful exterior and hugely versatile interior to ensure the Discovery maintains its position as the most capable and family-friendly full-size SUV in the world.”

The Discovery design has evolved over more than three decades, and the new 2021 model retains important design cues from the past, including Discovery’s clamshell hood, stepped roof and high-visibility C-pillar. At the front, Discovery receives new LED headlights with the daytime running lights set lower to create a new look. The revised front bumper includes a larger body-colored section and new vents at the sides for a more dynamic appearance.

At the rear, new LED taillights are joined by a Gloss Black panel that incorporates the Discovery badging and license plate. Both the front and rear turn indicators add an animated sweeping motion. The scallops in the front fenders are now body color with black trim on the lower edge to accent the shoulder line.

New R-Dynamic versions of Discovery add unique exterior design elements for a more aggressively energetic appearance, including Gloss Black and Shadow Atlas exterior accents, two-tone leather and contrasting seat stitching.

The Land Rover Discovery lineup for 2021 includes four trim levels: 2.0L S, 2.0L S R-Dynamic, 3.0L S R-Dynamic and 3.0L HSE R-Dynamic. Discovery 2.0L S has a starting MSRP of $53,900 with the 2.0L S R-Dynamic version at $56,400. Adding the 6-cylinder engine, the 3.0L S R-Dynamic starts at $61,900 and the 3.0L HSE R-Dynamic tops the range at $68,900. Prices to not include $1,350 destination and delivery charge.

The 2021 Land Rover Discovery 2.0L trims are powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine producing 296 horsepower combined with an automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. Discovery 3.0L adds a turbocharged 3.0-liter 6-cylinder mild-hybrid engine producing 355 horsepower.

Inside, the 2021 Land Rover Discovery receives a redesigned center stack with an 11.4-inch full HD touchscreen that houses the advanced Pivi Pro infotainment system with a faster and more intuitive interface. Pivi Pro offers a simplified menu structure and a backup battery, which means navigation is available within seconds of vehicle startup. A new 4-spoke steering wheel features hidden-until-lit switches and metal gearshift paddles, while a new gear selector resides is in the console. Behind the steering wheel, a 12.3-inch interactive driver display can be configured to show a pair of conventional dials, full-screen 3D navigation guidance or a combination of the two.

Second-row seats have been redesigned for the 2021 Land Rover Discovery, offering more comfort with improved lateral support and longer, thicker cushions for better thigh support. Land Rover Click and Go tablet holders and USB ports are incorporated into the front seatbacks for second-row passengers. Second-row air vents have been relocated to the center console and second-row passengers have hidden-until-lit ventilation controls.

The new Discovery offers an optional hand-free Gesture Tailgate, and the power inner tailgate restrains items when the tailgate is opened and can be lowered for use as a bench. Intelligent Seat Fold allows the driver or passenger to configure the second- and third-row seats using the central touchscreen.

The 2021 Land Rover Discovery includes Terrain Response 2 drive modes to configure the vehicle for various driving conditions. The new Wade Mode is designed to help optimize to water fording, including automatically applying the brakes when the driver disengages Wade Mode to help restore full brake performance. When Discovery is equipped with the 3.0L engine, the advanced driveline optimizes the torque split between the front and rear axles to best suit the driving conditions.

The 2021 Land Rover Discovery also includes ClearSight Ground View technology. The system uses front cameras to provide a view of the ground directly in front of the vehicle that is normally obscured from the driver’s view, displaying it on the central touchscreen.
